07-06-1926 VCM VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER MEETING CITY COUNCIL JULY 6, 1926 The Regular meeting of the Village council was held at the Library Room on Tuesday July 6, 1926 Present – Roland K. Wilson, Pres, Geo Cornelius, L.L. Bishop, EE Scott, Trustees, W.F. Chadbourne, Clerk Meeting called to order by the President at 8 o’clock P.M. The first matter taken up by the Council was the question of maintaining the signal system at the Babcock Crossing. Mr. John Sebring and F.L. Eikes representing the N.P. Ry Co being present with blue prints showing the operation of a certain automatic signal which would be in continuous operation for the 14 hours of the day to replace the present system of on main 9 hours a day at what is known as the Babcock Crossing. The Council visited the above named crossing with the said representatives of the N.P. Ry who explained the working of this automatic signal and the location of the same. The following Resolution was unanimously adopted by the council Resolved: That this council recommended the adoption of this signal system believing that it is a safer means of preventing accidents that the present system. The Council also recommend that a stop signal be placed on the north side of what is known as the Chadbourne Crossing situated about 1200 ft east of Great Northern Depot this being a very dangerous crossing approaching from the north, several accidents having occurred here. Mr. Hoglund notified the council that he would like to have the council vacate his garage as a storage for the fire apparatus as he needed the room for his own use. Matter taken under consideration.
