VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER MEETING CITY COUNCIL
JULY 27, 1912
A regular meeting of the Village Council was held at the office of Geo. E. Page, President on
Saturday evening July 27, 1912.
Geo. E. Page, President, E.P. Babcock and B.F. Plummer Trustees and W.F. Chadbourne, Clerk.
Visitors; B.L. Hall, H.S. Hastings and J. deBooy
Meeting called to order at 8:00 p.m. by Presidents.
The minutes of the last meeting read and approved.
The following bills were presented and on motion duly made seconded and carried were allowed and
clerk ordered to draw warrants for their respective accounts.
J.E. Haulet – gasoline - $20.07
John Kohit – wood for jail - $2.00
A.N. Dare – printing scale books - $14.85
F.W. Nickerson – balance due of grade contract - $60.00
The bill of J. deBooy for dynamite used on {illegible}May 7-8 was on motion was laid on table.
Mr. Hastings having applied for office of Weigh Master. On motion he was appointed for July
August, September, and October with the understanding that his per {illegible} would be $3.00 per
day where the fees for weighing amounted to that sum, otherwise he should receive only whatever
he collected, he to report monthly to council amount received.
Communications were received from State engineer to bridge over Elk River and Tubes on
Mississippi bridge. On motion it was decided to postpone action for 2 weeks on Elk River bridge.
In regard to Tubes at north end of bridge over Mississippi river the clerk was authorized to notify
Mr. Cooley to prepare plan as stated in his letter.
The clerk was also instructed to procure warning signs at each end of Elk River bridge as
recommended by State engineer.
I was also decided to have a man fill up some holes in streets washed out by recent rains.
John Virgin, manager, Elk River Lumber Co. asked for permit to put scales in street in front of his
office for Co. use only on motions duly made seconded and carried concerns were given by council.
