VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER SPECIAL MEETING CITY COUNCIL
NOVEMBER 12, 1919
A Special meeting of the village council was held at the Office of the Elk River Lumber Co on
th
Wednesday the 12 of Nov 1919.
Members Present – J.H. Virgin, President, Bert Can, Trustee, and William Norval, Clerk
Called to order at 8 p.m. the minutes of last meeting were duly read and approved by the council.
Mr. R.E. Dare undertaker of Elk River Minn presented to the Council his bill for burial expenses of
Nelson Matineau amounting to the sum of fifty six dollars ($56.00) the deceased was the son of Mrs.
Geo Martineau a poor person and partly dependent on the Village for support. After considering the
matter it was moved seconded and carried that the bill of R.E. Dare amounting to $56.00 be allowed
and a warrant be issued for payment of the same. And the amt of said bill be charged to the Village
poor fund. The clerk was instructed to draw a warrant for the sum of $200.00 payable to the
treasurer of the Sherburne Co Fair Association, this sum having been allowed by the Village Council

at it’s meeting held on the 8 day of July 1919, being donation to said association for the year 1919.

Deed from the Houlton Investment Co for the parcel of land 60x60 feet located on Quincy St
donated for the Village of Elk River for the purpose of building the fire or engine house to be used
for the storage of the fire apparatus as well as one room to be used as the Village lock up was duly
presented and the same was accepted by the council and ordered filed with the clerk and that he
have the same recorded in the register of deeds office.
Deed from L.A. Henick of Elk River to the Village of Elk River for a parcel of land on Princeton
street 100 x 100 feet to be used for the location of the Artesien Well as wll as the tower and tank to
supply water for the water works purchase price of said land being $200.00 for which a warrant was
drawn to pay the same. Moved seconded and carried that the deed be accepted and the same be filed
for recognition in the register of deeds office. No further business. Council adjourned.
