Background/Discussion Mayor Dietz would like the City Council to consider the implementation of an award called Citizen of the Year. He has reached out to the City of Rogers mayor regarding their program and will share his findings. The Council may want to consider the nomination process, selection committee makeup, timing, and award. Couneilmember Westgaard stated yes expressing concerns with the scheduling of ice use. Mayor Dietz stated he'd like more frequent updates of the facili.ty. Councilmembex Wagner sta.ted she would like to designate an event coordinator. She suggested conttacting out with an event company or giving Marco Serrano the ability to facilitate and execute rentals. Mayor Dietz suggested re-evaluating positions. Councilmember Westga.axd ag.teed with xeviewing the organizational structuxe and position assigiunents. Mr. Portriet stated the facility commission sets goals and budget and makes recommendations regarding staffing. Chair Williams stated he i.s not sure they are setting staff up to succeed. Councilmembex Wagner asked about the cutrent process for scheduling room rentals and events. Mr. Hunter stated the customer service representalive acts as a liaison between the fac,ility and the catexer. They will take the calls and collect the information needed. Once the phone call is complete the representative contacts the caterer who then calls the person back. Councilmember Wagner suggested the cater close the room rental deals. Mayo= Dietz suggested Councilmembex Wagner and the city administratoY collab�xate with the caterer on managi.ng the xoom rental process. It was noted this wonld be only for the meeting rooms located upstairs. 10.2 Citizen of the Year Mapor Dietz discussed a new program for nomination of a Citizen of the Year who could be recognized at Elk Riverfest. He stated the only cost would be for a plaque. Council consensus to explore the program fuxther. Mayor Dietz stated he will develop a plan to present to Council at a futu.te meeting. �� ��� � Kiver City of Elk River Volunteer of the Year A`varded annuallyT to recognize residents that exemplifyT community spirit and involvement. The award is presented to an Elk River area resident that exemplifies communityT spirit and involvement. The award will be presented each yTear at Elk RiverFest. Nominations must be Yeceived no later than June 1 of each year. Please submit the nominee's name and address and list as much detail about their volunteer activities as possible. The more information provided, the better the decision that can be made. Also list the name and email address of the person submitting the nomination.
