6.1a ERMUSR 04-11-2023Elk River Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING TO: FROM: ERMU Commission Mark Hanson — General Manager MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: April 11, 2023 6.1a SUBJECT: Staff Update ACTION REQUESTED: None DISCUSSION: • I'm happy to report that Matt Zipp, Alex Paschall, and Alex Bernier did an outstanding job representing ERMU in APPA's 2023 Lineworkers Rodeo last weekend in Kansas City, Kansas. Although they didn't have the fastest times or the highest scores (it's hard to compete with the southern teams that can train for three months instead of three weeks), they were pleased with their results and enjoyed the opportunity to interact with the vendors in attendance and share tips and tricks with their fellow competitors. I'd also like to compliment jersey-designer-extraordinaire Angela Hauge for creating the most sought after design of the entire competition! Throughout the entire event, our team was constantly being asked by both competitors and fans for their jerseys. i is Y Matt Zipp (L), Alex Paschall (C), and Alex Bernier (R) Page Iof2 209 • There will be a public hearing after the commission meeting for our Wellhead Protection Plan (WHP) at 5:00 p.m. in our main office conference room. We appreciate commissioners being in attendance for this public hearing as we require a quorum to conduct it. Robyn Hoerr, a groundwater specialist from the MN Rural Water Association, will provide the highlights of the WHP plan including the main groundwater protection issues, general strategy of ERMU moving forward in their WHP implementation, and our next steps in the WHP plan approval process. She will discuss our responsibility to implement the various action measures over the 10-year life of the plan and the availability of grants, offered by MDH, as an opportunity for financial support in implementing the measures. • The public summary of the March 2023 MMPA Board of Directors meeting is below: • The Board of Directors of the Minnesota Municipal Power Agency met on March 28, 2023, at Chaska City Hall in Chaska, Minnesota and via videoconference.
