8.2 sr Ice Room Turf Rates Request for Action To Item Number Multipurpose Facility Advisory Commission 8.2 Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by Old Business August 14, 2023 Tim Dalton, FT Center Superintendent Item Description Reviewed by Ice/Room/Turf Rates 2023-2024 Reviewed by Action Requested Approve by motion the 2023-2024 Ice/Room/Turf rates. Background/Discussion At the June 12, 2023, meeting the MFAC changed the Ice/Room/Turf agenda item to be “discussion only” after Chair Williams requested its removal due to his absence. At the July 10, 2023, special meeting, the consensus of commissioners was to table the vote until the August 2023 meeting. Attached is the information that was part of the June 12, 2023 and the July 10, 2023 packets and some additional information pertinent to the decision. Staff is recommending the ice rate adjustment be tied to the average five-year inflation rate, in this case 4.42%. By utilizing this strategy, the 2023-24 rates would be: Prime $250.61/Hour and Non-Prime (reduced) $187.96/Hour. Additionally, staff suggests the MFAC consider a revision to the prime and reduced ice rate format. Currently, all hours sold between September 1 and March 14 are considered prime, and all hours between March 15 - August 31 are considered reduced regardless of the time of day. If the prime rate was effective year- round, with discounted rates from 6a (early morning) - 2p on school days only, the impact would have been an additional $12,169.80 in revenue in 2023. Summer and off-season ice is more expensive to maintain and there is now consistent demand for off - season ice. In addition, most off - season ice users have contracts determining their ice rates, so the prime and reduced rates only apply to a small percentage of users. This would allow the FT Center to set ice rates closer to the actual cost of providing the service. Staff recommends a $5/hr. adjustment to all Fieldhouse hourly rental rates. Note, these rates have not been adjusted since the facility opened 2020. Financial Impact Establishing rates consistent with the demand for facility use will allow the FT Center to reach budgetary goals. Mission/Policy/Goal Establishing rates consistent with the caliber of our facility allows us to sustain operations.
