VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING
October 7, 1957
The regular meeting of the Elk River Village Council was called to order on Oct 7, 1957 by Harry
Dow, Acting Mayor in the absence of Mayor Schwartz. All other members were present. The
minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.
Fred Sandberg and H.A. Briggs reported on a meeting with the school board regarding having
someone to have charge of the skating rink. The school board agreed to be responsible for getting
someone to take charge of the rink if the village would appropriate $300.00 for the season.
Motion by Sandberg and second by Meyer to appropriate $300.00 for this purpose. Carried.
Attorney John E. MacGibbon was present and there was discussion regarding Village zoning. Mr.
MacGibbon will investigate what is the best to do and report to the Council.
There was discussion in regard to black topping the County road through the village. As it is rather
late in the season nothing further was done.
There was a discussion about making contracts with adjoining townships and the village fire
department. We will take this up with Elk River Township, Otsego, and Big Lake.
A motion was made by Briggs and seconded by Meyer to authorize Lester Derr to buy a used
mower at a price not to exceed $137.50. Motion carried.
Motion by Sandberg and second by Briggs to make contract with State Highway Department for
snow removal. Motion carried.
August Leider appeared. He has received bills of over $600.00 for sewer installation and plumbing
which he is unable to pay. The Council advised him to contact the bank in regard to a loan on his
house.
Oliver Micheau reported that he believes bike licenses are necessary. He agreed to look this up
further.
