Call Meeting to Order Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the meeting of the Elk River Library Board was called to order at 5:28 p.m. by Chair Boelter. 2. Consider Agenda Moved by Commissioner Boelter and seconded by Commissioner Soukup to approve the April 25, 2023, agenda. Motion carried 3-0. 3. Consent Agenda Moved by Commissioner Soukup and seconded by Commissioner Boelter to approve: 4.1 January 24, 2023, minutes. 4.2 January, February, March 2023 Revenue and Expense Reports. Motion carried 3-0. 4. Open Forum No one appeared for Open Forum. 5.1 Elk RiverFest Involvement At the last meeting, the Elk River Library Board considered participating in Elk Riverfest this year. The event is July 20, 2023, at Orono Park. Mrs. Burkhardt has contacted Karen Wingard, the city Events Coordinator, to apply for a booth that day. She has also booked one of her staff to be there. The board members could attend and help with run a plinko game the library has or hand out pens from the library and answer any questions the public has. Commissioner Boelter and Soukup are unable to attend. Chair Blaske will check his schedule. Secretary Larson will send out an email to Commissioners Hegarty and Voss. Moved by Commissioner Boelter and seconded by Commissioner Soukup to have board members attend a booth representing the library at Elk Riverfest. Motion carried 3-0. 5.2 Sherburne County Parade Library Board Minutes April 25, 2023 Page 2 The board discussed possible involvement in the parade along with the library but decided to focus on just participation in Elk Riverfest this year. Mayor Dietz expressed concerns about patrons trying to get in and out of the library during the parade. Mrs. Burkhardt said she will check with the GRRL about closing the library for the couple of hours that the parade is happening. Once she knows an answer, she will reach out to Mr. Hecker about acquiring proper signage. The board also requested adding the downtown trick or treat event to the July agenda. They would like to consider being involved somehow. The board expressed interest in possibly holding an event at the library after the parade next year. 5.3 CIP Items Six chairs by the fireplace were reupholstered by Colbath Upholstery. 5.4 Prepare Annual Report Chair Blaske and Commissioner Boelter will meet to put a report together that will be presented to the City Council on June 5`' at 6:30pm. Mrs. Burkhardt will also present the Elk River Library report at the same time. 5.5 Interior Building Walk Through Key items identified on the walk included: ■ One of the toilets in the front entry bathroom needs to be reattached inside the wall. Building maintenance is working on this but it isn't an easy fix. ■ Two chairs in the kid's area need to be reupholstered and the caterpillar couch needs to be cleaned. ■ The main wall in the kid's area is now orange, the mural is gone. ■ There is a piece of weather stripping in one of the back windows on the northeast corner of the library loose. ■ The cork flooring in the teen area needs to be replaced. The library staff and the library board agreed that just matching the same flooring that is up around the front desk would be fine. Mr. Hecker said he will reach out to Butch Pelarski, the Assistant Facilities Maintenance Superintendent to check on flooring options. 5.6 Patron Services Supervisors Report GRRL Patron Services Supervisor Jeannette Burkhardt presented Lori Lundstrom's report since she has resigned from the Elk River Library. 5.7 Library Services Coordinator Report Mrs. Burkhardt presented her staff report. She informed the board that five applicants are being interviewed for the GRRL for the new Library Services Coordinator Report. Also, the Elk River Library will now have to provide a plan for how the donation money will be spent from a large trust that contributes $12,000 per year to the library. Mrs. Burkhardt is also working on developing a reading program at the library that could be implemented next year connecting patrons to adult volunteers that would read with them. p 0 1 E I f 1 5 NATURE Library Board Minutes April 25, 2023 Page 3 5.8 City Council Report Mayor Dietz did not have any City Council updates that pertained to the library to share. 6. Announcements 7. Motion to Adjourn Moved by Commissioner Boelter and seconded by Commissioner Soukup to adjourn the meeting of the Elk River Library Board. Motion carried 3-0.
