Action Requested
Provide the applicant with informal, non-binding, feedback regarding their proposal.
Background/Discussion
In 2017 Spectrum High School received their last approval authorizing the operation of a school in a Business
Park zoning district. After that approval, the City Council adopted an ordinance amendment removing institutional
uses (schools) in the Business Park district. This change reclassified Spectrum to a legal non-conforming use and
while they could no longer expand, they could continue operating in the same capacity as had been approved in
2017.
Spectrum has continued to operate a successful school, but they are seeking to expand their facilities to add
additional athletic and arts capacity. These changes will require a change to the zoning district to add institutional
uses back into the Business Park, or the city could place the parcels wholly dedicated to educational uses into a
PUD.
Spectrum is seeking the Commissions feedback regarding these two options and whether you would consider
supporting a future proposal.
