04-18-1923 VCMVILLAGE OF ELK RIVER MEETING CITY COUNCIL APRIL 18, 1923 A Special meeting of the Village Council was held at the Library Room on Wednesday, April 18, 1923. Present -C.A. Morse, Geo Cornelius and B.E. Fournier, Trustees and W.F. Chadbourne, Clerk The president M.K. Iliff being absent C.A. Morse Trustee was appointed to act as President Pro­Tem. Mr. C.L. Bryant Pres of the Jefferson Highway Transportation Co failed to appear as per agreement. Action postponed. Fred Ayers Fire Chief presented a report of the election of officers in the Fire department and asked the council to approve of the same. On motion his report was accepted and officers confirmed. Fred Ayers also presented a report of the election of officers in the Firemans Insurance Co and asked the Council to approve the same. On motion the report was accepted and approved. Notice of suit of damages having been filed with the Village Clerk by Geo. H. Tyler Atty for Peter Jacob in the amount of 250.00 on account of opening sewer to repair same. On motion the clerk was instructed to procure legal advice to defund the action. On motion the street com. Were instructed to procure suitable flowers for the Park. On motion Mr. Charles Roggatz was appointed street com. To attend street sprinkling and road repairing at a salary of 100.00 per month subject to the approval of the street com. Duties to begin May 1 and continue as long as said com. Approves. The following applicatinos were made for licenses to sell milk. J .W. Playde, B.A. Moulduehour and John Bug on motion their was granted subject to the approval of the veterinary. J.W. Playde having complied with all the requirements the clerk was instructed to issue license. Complaint having been made to the council in regard to dumping ground on the lots owned by J.W. Hamlet same having decreed a public nuisance. The Clerk was instructed to correspond with Mr. Hamlet in regard to the matter. On motion the clerk was instructed to draw an order in the sum of 25.00 at the proper time to enable the officers of the fire department to attend the firemens convention to be held at in June. The following bills were presented and on motion allowed and clerk ordered to draw orders for their respective amounts. Leon Kaliher reading meters April 5.00 Herman Iverson opening gutters 3.75 National Meter Co repairs on meters 5.01 First National Bank compensation ins 23.30 First National Bank ins on fire engine 45.77 Fred Ayers Fire Chief attending fires at A. Bysin and C.S. Wheatins 30.53 Fred Hamlet representing the Northern States Oil Co came before the Council and asked that a storm sewer be put in to carry the surface water away from the Co’sproperty and asking that it be placed deep enough to carry the sewage from his public rest room. After considerable discussion the matter was left for the future consideration of the Street com. A request was also made for a street light at the intersection of Princeton and North St which was referred to com. On highway. No further business. Meeting adjourned. W.F. Chadbourne, Vill Clerk
