Discuss the concept of an 18-hole disc golf course at Burr Oak Park.
Background/Discussion
At a recent Parks Commission meeting, it was discussed that Lion John Weicht Park will not be suitable for a
9-hole disc golf course. The holes that park maintenance team members installed this past summer are already
sinking. Staff brainstormed park locations for a potential disc golf course and came up with Burr Oak Park.
Burr Oak Park consists of 26-acres of undeveloped city park land. The topography of this park consists of rolling
hills with a mix of habitat types including oak woodland, grasslands with interspersed red cedars, wetlands and two
pine plantations. The size and terrain of the property are ideal for an 18-hole disc golf course. Access to the
property is available from CSAH 33 on the south property line. However, clearing of mature trees and substantial
grading would be required to achieve access and parking. Access may be gained through acquisition of an easement
along the east property line (as shown in concept) and staff members will meet with the current property owner.
Tim Sevcik developed a concept plan for Burr Oak Park based on the Disc Golf Course Design Elements (PDGA).
With this concept design for 18-holes, we will need to purchase another 9-baskets in addition to construction costs
building the course with parks maintenance team members.
Financial Impact
Cost of 9-baskets and construction material costs to be determined. This project will be added to the capital
improvement plan or budgeted for in 2025 based on cost estimates.
