11-08-1916 VCM VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING November 8, 1916 A Regular meeting of Village Council was held at the Office of C.F. Fiman on Wednesday evening Nov 7, 1916 Present – C.F. Fiman, Pres, F.M. Plank Trustee and W.F. Chadbourne, Clerk. Meeting called to order by Pres at 8:30 P.M. The following bills were presented and on motion allowed A.A. Opitz dumping ground for 19x6 10.00 Fred Ayers bal due for Marshal 3.70 John Blocker watchman fair grounds 17.50 E.R. Garage care of fire engine 9.70 Davis Bros goods for street 1.00 E.R. Power and Light Co fixtures 4.50 W.F. Chadbourne election ex Nov 7 16 36.45 On motion the following resolution was adopted Be it resolved, by the Village Council of the Village of Elk River, Sherburne Co. that Whereas there has been established in the Village of Elk River Sherburne Co State of Minnesota, a plant and system of lighting the streets thereof with electricity and Whereas, said plant and system are now in actual and continuous operation and is available for the use hereinafter suggested and Whereas, the streets of said Village are now actually lighted by electricity and which system has supplanted the kerosene lamp system of lighting heretofore existing therein, and whereas said kerosene lighting system still obtains at the Depot of the Northern Pacific Railway Company, and is unsatisfactory and dangerous to the many patrons of said railroad in said Village, on account of the unanimous of the platform at and approaches to said Depot particularly dangerous at night without sufficient light and whereas, many complains have been made to the common Council of the said Village relative to the condition herein described, and especially since the means of lighting by electricity have become readily available. Now, therefore. Be it resolved by the Common Council of the Village of Elk River, County of Sherburne and State of Minnesota, that it respectfully request the Northern Pacific Railway Company to install electric lights at its Depot in the Village of Elk River and respectfully submit the proposition of so lighting its depot to the Northern Pacific Railway Company with the objects of protecting both its own interests and serving the welfare and conveniences of its many patrons of said stations. Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Northern Pacific Railway Company at its office in St. Paul Minnesota Dated Elk River this 8 day of November 1916 Signed by C.F.
