Approve, by motion, moving Sam Hansen into the Senior Facility Worker position effective March 18, 2024. Background/Discussion The 2024 FT Center budget includes a new fulltime position of maintenance worker. We have developed the position description, which is attached, and recommend Sam Hansen for this position. Mr. Hansen began working for the city in November of 2017 as a seasonal arena worker. He has returned each season and started working year-round part-time when the FT Center opened, leaving only briefly when he started a fulltime job. He returned to working part-time at the FT Center in addition to his fulltime job just two months later. Recently he’s moved into the part-time position of ice resurfacer/facility worker. Mr. Hansen will start at step A of pay grade 6N. All pay and benefits will be consistent with city policy. Financial Impact This position was built into the 2024 budget utilizing the part-time wages allocated to facility maintenance to cover a majority of the cost. Updated: January 2023 City of Elk River Senior Facility Worker Position Description Department: Immediate Supervisor: Multi-purpose Facility Facility Maintenance Supervisor Pay Grade: FLSA Status: Last Updated: (date) 6N Non-Exempt 2/2024 Positions Supervised: N/A Position Summary The Senior Facility Worker is responsible for performing custodial duties to ensure a clean and safe environment for customers, in addition to ice and facility maintenance tasks. Essential Functions 1. Performs cleaning activities in and around FT Center. a. Cleans building as scheduled. b. Maintains all floors to include vacuuming, carpet cleaning, sweeping, mopping, buffing, and waxing. c. Cleans windows, walls, and baseboards. d. Washes sinks, mirrors, hardware in restrooms and other areas, and sanitizes restroom facilities. e. Empties garbage and recycle containers. f. Takes initiative to maintain cleanliness of building and grounds as needs occur. 2. Performs minor interior and exterior maintenance and repair services. a. Performs painting of areas that have been worn, damaged, or repaired. b. Makes minor repairs as directed by supervisor. c. Reports any damage or deficiencies to supervisor. d. Assists with minor carpentry. e. Assist with other general minor repairs. f. Assists with changing filters, cleaning coils and condensers in HVAC units. 3. Performs light duty ground maintenance. a. Clears snow from parking lots, sidewalks, and entrance areas to the facility. b. Picks up litter from the grounds. c. Assists with repair to irrigation system. 4. Coordinates cleaning supplies and monitors cleanliness of facility and grounds. a. Spot cleans as necessary. b. Maintains cleaning equipment (vacuums, buffers, polishers, etc.) c. Maintains product inventory of towels, toilet tissue, soaps, light bulbs, and other necessary supplies, equipment, and parts. d. Performs duties to ensure a clean and safe facility and grounds. Page 1 5. Performs other essential job duties. a. Regular and timely work attendance. b. Follows all safety procedures. c. Participates in safety training. d. Sets up and takes down chairs, tables, etc., for meetings. e. Assists in operating and maintaining ice resurfacing equipment. f. Assists in identifying and correcting ice surface defects. g. Keeps supervisor informed of important developments to effectively maintain operations. h. Takes initiative to perform other duties or assume other responsibilities as time allows. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Minimum Qualifications  Knowledge of proper maintenance procedures.  Knowledge of the practices, procedures, equipment, chemicals, and materials used in the facility.  Skilled in safe operation of hand and power tools and building maintenance equipment.  Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and efficient manner.  Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.  Ability to work independently and prioritize work.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, vendors, and the public.  Ability to comprehend, calculate, problem solve, and consult relevant sources and manuals.  Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, climb, crawl, stand, bend, reach, and manipulate objects and equipment requiring manual dexterity as needed to perform duties.  Ability to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse environmental conditions.  Ability to lift 50 pounds. Minimum Qualifications  Valid Minnesota driver’s license and good driving record.  High school diploma or equivalent.  One year building maintenance/custodial experience or related field. Preferred Qualifications  Experience in ice arena operations.  Additional experience in the building maintenance/custodial field. This Position Description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
