Background/Discussion The position of Event Server was added to the Compensation Plan for Non-organized Employees by Resolution at the July 1, 2024, Regular City Council meeting. We have now completed the position description and present it for approval. Financial Impact These expenses are included in the FT Center part-time budget. Event Server Position Description Page 58 of 197 Page 1 City of Elk River Event Server Position Description Department: Business Services/Multi-purpose Facility Immediate Supervisor: Concessions Supervisor Pay Grade: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Last Updated: (date) 9/2024 Positions Supervised: N/A Position Summary The Event Server prepares and sells concession items, prepares and serves catering items, handles money and makes change, and keeps the area clean and tidy. Responsible for the legal selling and serving of alcoholic beverages. Essential Functions 1. Works at catered events. A. Assists in the preparation, set up, and clean up of food and food service area. B. Serves food to event attendees and ensures food supplies remain stocked. 2. Responsible for legal liquor sales and service. A. Ensures all patrons are of legal drinking age. B. Prepares beverage booth for liquor sales. C. Maintains cleanliness, organization, and security of work area. 3. Provides customer service and maintenance and security of concession area and equipment. A. Prepares and serves food to customers in a polite and professional manner. B. Performs routine cleaning of equipment. C. Notifies Concessions Supervisor of any repairs and/or maintenance requiring attention from a service contractor. D. Monitors and maintains security of the concession area when working. 4. Performs financial activities. A. Rings up sales, receipts payments, gives change, etc. B. Maintains change/refund fund in accordance with jurisdiction. C. Coordinates the receipt and money. 5. May be assigned as the lead worker in the absence of the Concessions Supervisor. A. Oversees staff to ensure they are preparing items in a proper manner. B. Ensures food is prepared and ready for sale with limited wait time while also limiting excess food items at the end of the day. Page 59 of 197 Event ServerPage 2 6. Performs other essential job duties. A. Regular and timely work attendance. B. Follows all safety procedures and participates in safety training. C. Follows all policies, procedures and practices related to alcohol service, food handling/sanitation guidelines, and general safety. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Skill to communicate effectively with a variety of groups. Ability to deny service when necessary. Ability to keep accurate records. Ability to work independently and assume responsibilities with minimal direct supervision. Ability to operate a cash register, accurately count and record cash received. Ability to present a positive and professional image of the City to the public. Ability to follow all City policies. Minimum Qualifications Experience handling money. Experience dealing with the public. Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. Preferred Qualifications Experience with alcohol sales. Physical Requirements On a continuous basis, must be able to be on your feet for long periods of time. On a frequent basis, must be able to bend, stoop, and kneel and to perform custodial duties. On an occasional frequent basis must be able to lift 20 pounds from floor to waist and have the ability to carry it over 25 feet. On an occasional basis must be able to lift 10 pounds over head. On occasional basis, must be able to climb a step ladder.
