6.1f EMRUSR 12-10-2024��i Elk River Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING TO: FROM: ERMU Commission Chris Sumstad — Electric Superintendent MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: December 10, 2024 6.1f SUBJECT: Staff Update ACTION REQUESTED: None DISCUSSION: • Installed 14 new residential services, which involves the connection of a secondary line once the customer requests service. • Joe Schmidt, Safety Instructor from Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association, was here on November 26-27 and held safety meetings for all ERMU staff on cold stress and healthy holidays. • A new three-phase commercial service was installed on Main Street near Gates Avenue. • Crews are finishing the Feeder 42 extension along with completing the power needs to Vireo, the new customer at the old refuse -derived fuel site. • Installed 300 feet of new underground primary and a transformer to service two, three - unit townhome buildings in Dayton. • The bore crew replaced 600 feet of open concentric primary along Dodge Street, north of 193rd Avenue. We will continue wire replacement in this area in spring of 2025. • Crews are currently working on setting transformers and terminating primary wire at the Bradford Park housing development. Over sixty housing lots will then be available there, with more planned for 2025. • Participated in leadership training with Lisa Negstad on November 21. • West bank 1 substation work completed in November included new 500 MCM underground wire from sub to first pole for Feeder 72 and a new recloser for Feeder 71. • The frost set in with the cold snap over Thanksgiving weekend. Over a foot was found in some housing developments, with at least five inches almost everywhere. This always adds to the workload as we install wire over the winter. • 1 am spending time planning the winter work for early 2025. Besides tree trimming, line crews will be rebuilding overhead line on Feeder 65 out of North substation. We will also be replacing five reclosers and controllers at North and servicing our switched capacitor banks on the system. Page 1 of 1 149
