ELK RIVER PARK BOARD MEE'TING
HELD IN THE VILLAGE OFFICE BUILDING
January 24, 1973 at 7:30 pm.
BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Les Derr, Gene Schuldt, Bob Syring, Dr. George Meyer
Duane Becklin.
BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT: Bob otto.
GUESTS PRESENT: Kenneth Parker, Frank Madson, LYnn Moore.
Letter was received in reply to application for Lawcon Grant (Office of Local and Urban
Affairs). Letter stated that there was insufficient funds for 1973 park expansion project.
Mr. Parker reported that some funds are available for paying salary of Recreation
Director from CommUnity School Grant. He stated probably salary and supplies cost would
be approximately $12,000.00 for one year and that School Board would authorize $5,000.00
if Grant was received. However, Board turned down recommendation on basis that
sufficient interest was not shown to warrant need for Recreational Director. Becklin
to check Cambridge set up.
Bob Syring stated that Village Council is in the process of formulating an ordinanace
for parks and recreation. Park Board would have the authority to operate on its own
rather than serve as an advisory board to the Council. It was noted that money for
a recreational program may be available from General Revenue.
Plans for a summer baseball program were deferred until village ordinance and its
guidelines are finalized. ~~
