ELK RIVER PARK BOARD MEETING
HELD IN THE VILLAGE OFFICE BUILDING
April 11,1973 at 7:30 PM.
BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Les Derr, Gene Schuldt, Bob otto, Duane Becklin.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Dr. George Meyer.
GUESTS PRESENT: John Dietz, George Zabee, Lloyd pogatchnik, Dick Heles, Jerry Schemph,
John McGibbon, Frank Mag.sen.
SUMMER ~ECREATION PROGRAM: Swimming program will be renewed again this summer. If
recreation programs are run on school property, a person with Physical Education
Degree will be required. Softball leagues and horseshoe leagues are in good shape.
BASEBALL PARK RENTAL: Request was made to rent baseball park on Monday nights. No
conflict forseen with the existing softball schedule.
PARK BOARD ORGANIZATION: Village must set up separate Park Board first and then branch
out to include other area with a Park Committee, Mr. McGibbon suggested that formal
Park Board would have to be set up by ordinance because existing organization is a
Park Committee without authority. Council members stated that a resolution to form
possible participating municipalities will be invited to next Park Board meeting to
initiate formation of a Recreation Committee. Frank Madsen stated that Elk River Township
is prepared to provide their share of funds up to $2,000.00. John Dietz gave a report
on last years Summer Recreation Program including activities and sources of funds.
It was brought out that if school recreational facilities were leased by Recreation
Committee, then requirement for Phy. Fn. Degreed person would not be necessary. John
Dietz stated he would be interested in running Summer Recreation Program.
Next meeting scheduled for May 2, 1973 at the village office building.
