Action Requested
Mayor Dietz and Council to recognize the completion of the required probationary period for new
firefighters and for Mayor Dietz to present the oath of office to our newest members of the fire department.
Background/Discussion
Newly hired firefighters are placed into the Elk River Fire Academy and are required to complete 170 hours
of training, receiving certifications in Firefighter I, II, and HAZMAT Operations. After the fire training, they go
on to complete Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) training. Probationary firefighters serve an additional six
months of probation which they are required to complete a probationary task book consisting of skills
verifications and various other tasks that firefighters are expected to be proficient in before becoming full-
fledged firefighters for the City of Elk River. Firefighters Sparza, Stellmach, and Oliveira have displayed the
character and skills required to be part of the Elk River Fire Department.
