6.4 SR 11-18-2024The Elk River Vision A welcoming community with revolutionary and spirited resourcefulness, exceptional service, and community engagement that encourages and inspires prosperity Request for Action To City Council Item Number 6.4 Meeting Date November 18, 2024 Prepared By Joe Libor Jr., Deputy Fire Chief Item Description Oath of Office: Firefigthers Reviewed by Mark Dickinson Cal Portner Tina Allard Action Requested Mayor Dietz and Council to recognize the completion of the required probationary period for new firefighters and for Mayor Dietz to present the oath of office to our newest members of the fire department. Background/Discussion Newly hired firefighters are placed into the Elk River Fire Academy and are required to complete 170 hours of training, receiving certifications in Firefighter I, II, and HAZMAT Operations. After the fire training, they go on to complete Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) training. Probationary firefighters serve an additional six months of probation which they are required to complete a probationary task book consisting of skills verifications and various other tasks that firefighters are expected to be proficient in before becoming full- fledged firefighters for the City of Elk River. Firefighters Sparza, Stellmach, and Oliveira have displayed the character and skills required to be part of the Elk River Fire Department.
