ELK RIVER PARK BOARD MEETING
HELD IN THE CITY OFFICE BUILDING /10

February 7, 1974 at 7:30 P.M.
BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Les Derr, Gene Schuldt, Wilbur Daniels, Eugene Scribner, &
Donald Strei.
MEMBERS ABSENT: Shirley Matuseski.
GUESTS: Wally Fox; Babe Ruth League, Dick Hales, Babe Ruth League.
Dwaine Becklands term on the Elk River Park Board.has expired and Wilbur Daniels has been
appointed in his place, Donald Strei has been appointed to replace Gary Pestello as a
representative of Elk River Township.
Les Derr presented a letter from the River Riders Snowmobile Club in which they have stated
a $50.00 contribution for the Summer Recreation Program. A letter of thank you will be sent
in reply.
SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAM. Les Derr reported that no additional word has been recevied from
the School Board ,regarding the program being operated under school administration. A
financial report was presented on the Summer Recreation Program. There was no questions or
discussions on it. M/S/P to accept financial statement.
PARK AND RECREATION SITES. Discussion held on need for additional land. With shortage of
present facilities, limitatiomfor use by teams outside the area may have to be imposed.
Les Derr reported he had contacted the County Engineer, Russ Machinsly, regarding a
bicycle path west Main Street to the park. Nothing can be done at the present time, but
there may be a possibility for later this year.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS: Les Derr was nominated for chairman. Shirley Matuseski was nominated
for Secretary. Officers were elected by unanimous ballot.
MEETING NIGHT. It was mutually agreed that the 1st Thursday of each month be set aside for
meeting nights. Les Derr will check with the City Clerk to make certain that is clear.
A special meeting was set for February 21, 1974 for purpose of setting a budget for 1974-75
Meeting time set for 7:30 PM.
BABE RUTH LEAGUE. Dick Hales estimated that equipment cost would be $375.00. Team alignment
would be essentially the same as last year. Registration fees would be $5.00 per
participant to cover insurance, umpires, trophies, and miscellaneous expenses. Babe Ruth
League has requested $1,000 from the Greater Elk River United Fund.
