ELK RIVER PARK BOARD MEETING
HELD IN THE CITY OFFICE BUILDING
March 7, 1974 at 7:30 P.M.
BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Les Derr, Gene Schuldt, Wilbur Daniels, Gene Scribner,
Don Strei, Shirley Matuseski.
MEMBERS ABSENT: None.
GUESTS: Mayor Cliff Lundberg, Dick Hales, Joe Barsody.
A motion was made by Gene Scribner to approve the printing bill. Wilbur Daniels seconded
the motion.
A motion was made by Gene Scribner approving the Park Boards financial statement. Wilbur
Daniels seconded the motion.
Les Derr talked to Mayor & assistant Mayor about using dump for park area. They suggested
Park Board should come up with a plan first.
Les Derr talked to John Bailey about his land for park. Mr. Bailey is using it for grazing
horses. Mr. Bailey would like Park Board to find something else.
Gene Scribner gave a report on our questionaire to be put in the Atomic Shopper. Mr.
Scribner gave a list of volunteers for a Recreation Program. Gene read a letter from the
Community Service Dept. about what the Anoka Recreation Program is doing on outing luncheon
and play and bus for women.
Dan Strei is making an investigation on how to obtain more land. Les Derr entertained a
motion and Dan Strei moved this committee initiate a pre-application for a Federal Land
Grant for park use. A five year: plan has to be undertaken, seconded by Gene Schuldt. Motion
carried.
Joe Barsody came here from the Lions Club with money they raised to be given for Orono
Park, approximately $1,000.00 for park improvement. He would like to know what the money
will be used for. Playground equip~ent was suggestect.
Dick Hales presented his plans for summer program.
Ages 9-12 Little League (97)
7-8 T-Ball
Two league Major 7-12 years
5-11 years
3-10 years
The expenses are minor. Monday Wednesday Friday Nights, any rain outs set for afternoons.
T-Ball set for Sat. mornings, ages 7-8.
Scribner - 12 games - 8 week program
Start June 5 (Wed.) 4th of July break.
Second half of season, August 5-9, playoff of seconded division champions.
Registration fees-1st child $3.50 any child after $3.00.
Budget - uniforms, T-shirts & caps.
Trophies to be picked up by sponsors. Sponsors cost $75.00.
Equipment needed slightly under $1,000.00.
Registration fee will take care of Insurance, talking primarily of boys.
It was suggested a letter be written to local Insurance Agents specifying what we need and
invite them to a meeting to give us information on cost and coverage.
A meeting was scheduled for Thursday March 21, 1974 at 7:30 P.M.
200 - 250 kids, ages 7-15, boys. 4-10 volunteering for Babe Ruth League, 8-16 Little League
5 T-Ball. Dan Strei will get approximate figures.

Wilbur Daniels offered to find out about bicycling & fishing costs.
Gene Scribner is going to get an article in the paper about what we are doing so far.
Les Derr moved to adjourn the meeting, Dan Strei seconded,. The motion was carried.
