Dave Halgren &: Guy Varty presented their Hockey &: Figure Skating figures consisting of 550
children. Dayton, Rogers, Zimmerman &: Elk River. (whole school)
600 hours useable ice time. Elk River Youth Hockey Program rented about 400 hours. (including
Hockey Clinic). .
Budget.73-74, $35,000.00 (approx.)
Everyone involved with Youth Hockey is volunteers. Coaches, referees, etc. They have two
paid umpires this y~ar. They have approximately 200 volunteers.
One hour of Ice time cost is $25.00. They are asking for a donation of $650.00. Gene Scribner
made a motion to give Elk River Youth Hockey $650.00 from June 1, 1974 t() Jt.ln$ 1, 19?~.
Don Strei seconded the motion. This is for one hour Ice time for each 15 kids (approx
on 1973 and 1974 figures).
Guy Varty will pass along information on the Golf Program initiated by Elk River Country Club

~ . reimbursed for their gas. Equipment needed, will let us know. Orono Park for use of teems.

Jerry Schemph needs a softball feild for girls softball, for April &: May, 3.30 - 5.30 PM. at
Orono Park. Will let us know.
Gene Scribner presented his Re6reation program answers from questionaires,. .
Pete Rhalf suggested taking kids in his bus for fishing &: tenting trips. Obtaing fishing
equipment was discussed. \

It was decided that a personal letter ~esent out to each volunteer thanking them.
Les Derr submitted the state specifications for bicycle trail. Cost approximately $3,000_

ELK RIVER PARK BOARD MEETING
March 21, 1974
MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Les Derr, Gene Schuldt
MEMBERS ABSENT: Wilbur Daniels
GUESTS: Tony Mikols, Elk River Jaycees
Fourth of July Celebration: Tony Mikols representing the Elk River Jaycees, presented
tentative plans for community July 4th Celebration. His points were as follows:
1. Jaycees lost money on last year's July 4th because there wasn't enough income source
to offset costs.
2. Evening teenage dance. No admission charge.
3. Adult dance. No admission charges. Evening.
4. Water events. No water sking, but other events.
5. Horse show at the fairgrounds.
6. Foodstand. Same as past years.
7. At least four, possibly six, satellite rest rooms.
8. Park to be sprayed previous day for mosquitos.
9. Jaycees will handle park cleanup.
10. Want to bring in a kids carnival.
11. Evening fireworks.
12. Liability insurance-extra crowd insurance.
13. Beer license-needed as major source of income. No bottles, plastic cups only.
14. Requested life guards and open swimming beach in the afternoon.
15. Temporary water line extended to the park shelter.
16. Need additional electrical power.
Park Board was in agreement with tentative plans of Jaycees. Permission was granted to bring
in the Kid's Carnival. Park Board is willing to back up Jaycees on life guard expense
if Jaycees do not make enough profit to cover it. Park Board was in favor of granting
a beer license for this day only.
