ELK RIVER PARK BOARD

July 4th Beer License Park Board granted ap~ for one-c:lay beer license to Elk River
Jaycees in Orono Park as in past years, Park Board willund~te lifegu8.rdwages for
this day if Jaycees Gio not make enou.gh profit to cover. cost. It was made clear that if
lifeguards are not available, then the beach will not be open. Mayor L'UJ'ld'berg will be
notified before May 19th Council Meeting.
Orono Park Fence. Gene Putnam, Jaycees, reported that corner caps for fence posts were not
included with the order. He will purchase necesS8.17 parts and Park Board. will reimburse
him. Ken Nelson dumped a load of dirt for filling old post holes. Fence should be completed
by' the end of this week.
Ball Park Lights. Lyle Collins reported that there are quite a few light sockets that need
replacing. Some. of the planks on the towers are bad and the towers need painting. Just about
all of the towers will have two full rows of lights in them and should provide ample
illumination. Bid on the job for replacing lights was for $400.00 as it turned out, it will
take about 50 hours to complete, so wO'Jdt...was done at a low cost. All future work by' these
two men will be done on a cost per hour basis. They will also make an estimate of all add-
itional work needed.
Softball Diamonds. Laary' Keeger reported that both diamonds are ready' for use. He will
repack and reblade the Orono Park field within the next week. No sod work will be done
now, may not be needed. field condition and need for sod will be checked at end of Ball
season.
Boat Launching Site. Larry Kreger reported that he tried thetslope with h:i.s pickup truck
a1l.d. it was a:i.'ri.ght. . He will check it again to make certain. If there are problems with
vehicles getting stuck, more surface will be added. Someone dug a hole in the slope,
reason and person unk.nown. Larry Kreger will fill it in. When site is ready', a sign. and
barrier will have to go up at the old site. Also, signs will be needed at the new site.
City will provide barrier and signs.
Bike Path. Gene Schuldt reported that Mayor Lundberg had contacted him regardi,ng a bike
path out west Main St. to Orono Park. Question was if there was money in the budget for
this improvement. Mayor Lundberg was advised that the $1,034.83 carI'l'over frOll last
yeart s budget could be used.
Park Land Add1tion:Gene Schuldt reported that he submitted a letter and report to the City
Council on possibl~ land site available for park and recreation use. Land. is west of Elk:
liver near old tamp Cosy Site. The Council read the report and filed it away for future
reference.
Joint Recreation Agreement. The agre.esent establish:ing the Joint Recreation Board was
signed. by' Gene Scm.udt on Behalf of the Park Board on 5-7-75 and will be turned over to
the City Hall.
Playgound EQuipment. Ken Nelson is ready' to install the pla7greundequipmem.in Orono Park
and wanted to know where t.e locate it.. Site will be on theGe.r;r St. side, north<of the
picnic area and toilets, hut south of the access road.
Portable toilets. Satellite toilets will be ordered for the Main ball park. They are also
needed in the stadium at South Jr. High, but installations in both sites will depend on
cost. Bob Westerlund will check on cost and order them.
Orono Park Toilets Park Board agreed that new toilets are needed for Orono Park. Gene
Schuldt obtained a copy of the blueprint from the State of Minnesota for the facilities
built at Babcock Park on 'Highway 10. Toilets for Orono Park can be modified, not so
elaborate, to reduce cost. Estimate needed before 8.1'l1' decision can be maiIe.
Ball Park Concession Stand. Bob Westerlund reported that he has a man. . in mind aY8.ilable.
to run the concession stand at the Main Ball Park. Operator will get: 5C1fo of the net
profits. He will also be responsible for locking and unlocking the ew1tch boxes on
the light towers. Some repairs are needed for the concession stand. Question is whether 01'
not running the concession stand is worth the effort. Matter was tabled andaspecial was
meeting with representatives of the three softball leagues was set for ~, May 16, 1975
at 7:00 PM. at the County Administration Bldg.
