Action Requested
Approve, by motion, the hiring of Christopher Sauer to the position of custodian effective March 4, 2025.
Background/Discussion
After receiving the retirement notice from custodian James Barnes, we went to market to fill this position and
received 90 applications. Following two rounds of interviews, reference, and background checks, we
recommend Chris Sauer for this position.
Mr. Sauer worked for five years in ISD 11 (Anoka-Hennepin) and ISD 728 (Elk River Area Schools) as a
technology para and assistant. In 2018, he moved into a custodian role at Salk Middle School and has been
working there since.
Mr. Sauer will start at step B of the Local 49 Custodial pay plan. All pay and benefits will be consistent with
union contract and city policy.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position.
