Chief Kuhnly will recognize Officer Nic Albert for receiving the Medal of Valor, Medal of Courage, and Chief's
Award for his recovery after a line-of-duty injury.
Background/Discussion
In October 2023, Officer Albert sustained a serious gunshot wound to the arm in the line of duty. Through
his courage, mental fortitude, and steadfast work ethic, he was able to make a full recovery.
The efforts of him and his team resulted in the arrest of a very dangerous individual. For his efforts and
sacrifice, he earned the Medal of Valor, Medal of Courage, and Chief's Award at the police department's
annual meeting.

MEDAL OF VALOR
Description
The Medal of Valor is the Elk River Police
Department’s highest honor and is awarded to those
who distinguish themselves by bravery or heroism
above and beyond the normal demands of law
enforcement. To be awarded the Medal of Valor, an
officer must have performed an act displaying
exceptional courage, extraordinary decisiveness and
presence of mind while facing imminent peril.

Description
The Medal of Courage is awarded to an officer who
has been seriously, critically, or fatally injured while in
the performance of their duties.
