Mayor Dietz is asked to read and present the proclamation to the Elk River High School Culinary Team.
The Council is asked to wish the culinary team good luck at Nationals scheduled for May.
The Council is further asked to congratulate the management team on their second -place finish at the
Minnesota State Tournament.
Background/Discussion
The Elk River High School culinary team took first place in the 2025 ProStart State Invitational Tournament,
led by Monique Sabby. ProStart is a two-year nationwide technical education program that teaches technical
cooking and restaurant management.
The culinary team will represent the State of Minnesota at the National ProStart Invitational in May in
Baltimore, Maryland. The nationals are comprised of two competitions: management and culinary. The
culinary competition highlights each team's creative abilities through the preparation of a three -course meal in
60 minutes, using only two butane burners and without access to running water or electricity. Students are
then evaluated on taste, skill, teamwork, safety, and sanitation. The top five teams are awarded educational
scholarships to help further their careers in the restaurant and food service industry.
Also to note, the management team took second place at the Minnesota State Tournament this year.
Management teams create a business proposal for a new restaurant and are judged on concept, menu,
operations, marketing, and critical thinking.

PROCLAMATION
Designating April 8, 2025, as Elk River High School Culinary
Arts Championship Team Day in the City of Elk River,
Minnesota
WHEREAS, the Elk River High School culinary team, comprising Caiden Carey, Cole Lupien,
Jaelynn Mogren, Eddi Kotubetey, and Taylor Steindl, under the guidance of advisor Monique Sabby,
has displayed exceptional skill, teamwork, and dedication; and
WHEREAS, the team's hard work and talent culminated in their victory at the 2025 ProStart State
Invitational Tournament; and
WHEREAS, their achievement serves as an inspiration to fellow students, the Elk River High
School community, and the entire city; and
WHEREAS, the City of Elk River takes great pride in recognizing the accomplishments of its
youth and their contributions to our community;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, John J. Dietz, Mayor of the City of Elk River, do hereby extend our
heartfelt congratulations to the Elk River High School culinary team on their remarkable
achievement and wish them the best of luck as they represent our city and state at the 2025 ProStart
Nationals in Baltimore, Maryland.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that April 8, 2025, be proclaimed Elk River High School
Culinary Arts Championship Team Day in the City of Elk River, Xfinnesota.
