Action Requested
Approve, by motion, the hiring of Matt Braun to the position of street maintenance operator effective July 29,
2025.
Background/Discussion
Staff went to market to fill the vacant position of street maintenance operator. We received 52 applications
and interviewed 10 candidates. Following second interviews and background, reference, and pre-employment
checks, we recommend Matt Braun for the position.
Mr. Braun worked for 10 years for Local 49 as a heavy equipment operator. He worked for various
employers, including MnDOT, City of Bloomington Parks Department, Northern Pipeline Lakeville, and C.S.
McCrossan. He is currently working as the assistant store manager at Ace Hardware in Otsego. Mr. Braun
holds a Class A CDL. He has also worked as a fighter and EMT for the City of Brooklyn Park.
Mr. Braun will start at pay step A of the IUOE Local 49 contract for this position. All pay and benefits will be
consistent with the union contract and city policy.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position.
