Background/Discussion Councilmember Calva and members of his faith community have developed a connection to a Ukrainian city, and he has asked the City Council to consider entering into an informally formal sister city relationship with Kryvyi Ri, Ukraine. This relationship would be by Council motion and would not be registered through the Sister Cities International program or involve any financial commitment from taxpayers. It is our belief that each of our cities have advantages worth sharing that can help us all govern more effectively, for the sake of our citizens. Whether it be hosting delegations, from time to time, or exchanging practices that make our cities succeed, it is our expectation that our communities can benefit from the sharing or our cultures. Our city employs many talented people that no doubt have counterparts in Kryvyi Rih. It is our hope that this initiative can be beneficial to both cities by sharing ideas and systems we each find fruitful from past experiences.
