Dear Mayor Duitsman:
I am writing to you regarding the University of Minnesota Women's
Intercollegiate Athletic Department, WCCO Radio and CenexjLand O'Lakes
Hometown Day salute of student-athlete Jenny Cook. We will be saluting
Jenny and the city of Elk River Saturday, January 30 at 1:00 p.m. when the
Gophers take on Big Ten rival Iowa in swimming and diving at the Aquatic
Center on the U of M campus. I would like to invite you and other
representatives from the city of Elk River to be special guests of the women's
athletic department. At this celebration, I am asking you or a representative
of the city to present a proclamation for JENNY COOK - ELK RIVER
HOMETOWN DAY!
This celebration is one of eight HOMETOWN DAYS, a promotion
designed to salute some of Minnesota's finest student-athletes. During its
inaugural year of 1989-90, Hometown Days honored fifteen student-athletes
from thirteen Minnesota hometowns.
I look forward to meeting you and others from Elk River. Please call me

Dear Henry:
The Elk River Area Citizens League cordially invites you to attend a Town Meeting on
Transportation to be held on Thursday, January 28, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the
new Meadowvale Elementary School (see attached map).
This meeting is our opportunity to learn about what public transportation is available in
our area, and to make our voices heard in the transit planning process. The panel will
include a Minnesota Department of Transportation transit planner and a project
manager for our area. They will provide us with copies of the MnDot preliminary draft
Transit Plan. Our comments, criticisms and suggestions will become part of the public
planning process.
This Town Meeting will be the first in a series of three meetings on the topic of
Transportation. Future meetings will focus on Commuter Connections and Highways.
After each meeting, the Citizens League will send a written report of public comments
directly to the State Senators and Representatives from our area. After the series is
completed, the League will issue a comprehensive public report on transportation issues
In our area.
Please come and make your voice heard on January 28!

Dear Council Members:
As you are probably aware, we have been working with the group
trying to locate a farmer's market in the downtown area. We feel
that this activity would be a positive influence on the downtown
retailers. We have discussed the possible location of the market
in the parking lot behind Kemper Drug store and feel that the use
of this parking lot will give the farmer's market the exposure it
needs to have a reasonable chance of success. We have discussed
the possible market days of Wednesday nights and/or Sundays as
compatible days for both the downtown retailers and the farmers,
although other times may also be appropriate.
We feel strong enough about this market that our development
corporation has decided to lend some financial help to this group.
We are writing you this letter to encourage the city council to be
as flexible as possible in helping this farmer's market get
started. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free
to give myself, Jim Mulroy, Dave Plude, Al Nadeau or Jeff Kleinbaum
a call.
