SR 02-01-1993 Employee Highlight City well represented at conference 4fe City of Elk River received much licity as 5 representatives attended Minnesota State Planning Confer- ence in Duluth, May 8th thru 10th. This year's state-wide Conference Chair was Rita Johnson, also Chair of the Elk River Planning Commission. Commis- sioner Don Spotts was a panel member for one of the program sessions. Com- missioners Robert Bischoff and Mary Eberley, and Janelle Szklarski of City staff also attended and assisted with Conference arrangements. Johnson and Mary Eberley joined 6 other planners from various Minnesota city staffs and consulting firms to plan the conference. By follow- ing this process, we can ensure that all sides of an issue are presented before any decision is made. Not all will agree with every decision made, not even members of the City Council, but, in the end, the process we follow will ensure that those who want to give input on an issue will be allowed to and that their concerns will be considered when mak- ing the final decision. Procedure for handling sanitary sewer problem If the sanitary sewer at your residence or basement ever begins to back up into the basement, you should call the City's Sewer Department at 441-5136 BE- FORE you call a repair service. An in- spection will be performed by our sewer personnel to determine whether the problem is in the owner's sewer line or in the City's sewer main. If the City main is clear and not the cause of the problem, then the sewer backup prob- lem is being caused by the owner's line which hooks to the City main. This procedure of a quick phone call to the City may save you the costly expense of repair service ifthe sewer problem is in the City main. The City main is the responsibility of the City, but the sewer line hookup to the main is the responsi- bility of the property owner. Cliff Skogstad Cliff Skogstad is the Building Official for the City of Elk River. Cliff started with the City as the residential building inspector on October 26,1987. He came to the City from Sherburne County where he was the County Building In- spector. On March 26, 1989, Cliff be- came the Building Official for the City. As Building Official, Cliff is in charge of coordinating all of the building activi- ties within the City. Cliffs credentials for this job include Class 1 and Class 2 State Building Code Certification, col- lege level building inspection courses at North Hennepin Community College and numerous other State certifications as well as a number of years as a carpen- ter/con tractor. Cliff and his wife Katie have three children (Hannah-7, Sarah -5, and Luke- 2) and reside in Elk River. Cliff is also a member ofthe Elk River Fire Depart- ment. His hobbies include fishing, hunting, camping and trap shooting. The City feels fortunate to have some- one as knowledgeable and capable as Cliff in this position. City Offices will be closed v, ..
