SUBJECT: HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEMBERSHIP
STATUS

For the past few years, the City has been an Ox Cart member
in the Sherburne County Historical Society. This membership
costs $500 per year and, in realistic terms, it is generally
viewed as a donation to the Historical Society. During the
review of the last budget, the City Council reduced this $500
membership within the City Council dues and subscriptions
budget line item. The Sherburne County Historical Society
Executive Director has respectfully requested that we
reconsider this action and once again become an Ox Cart
member. If the Council so desires, the funding for this
membership can certainly be taken from the City Contingency
fund. If no change in the status of the City membership with
the Historical Society is authorized by the City Council, then
Elk River will simply pay its 1993 dues as a patron member
($150).
