SUBJECT:
ORDINANCE AMENDMENT, SECTION
1008.14 "LENGTH OF DEAD-END ROADS"
BY THE CITY OF ELK RIVER/PUBLIC
HEARING
Section 1008.14 (5) (j), "Subdivision Design Standards" states
"the maximum length of a street terminating in a cul-de-sac
shall be 500 ft measured from the center line of the street of
origin to the end of the right-of-way."
The Elk River Plann~ng Commission reviewed this request at the
February 23, 1993, meeting where several concerns were raised.
These concerns included the safety factor if the dead-end road
is blocked, the possibility of impeding fire suppression
because a fire hose looses pressure the farther it is extended,
and snow plowing conc~rns.
.
The Planning Commission continued the public hearing on this
request to the Mar9h 23, 1993, meeting which would allow the
Commission members ample time to discuss this issue at their
next workshop. A formal recommendation from the Planning
Commission can be exp~cted at the April 19, 1993, City Council
meeting. Staff is requesting the City Council open the public
hearing and continue it until the April 19, 1993, meeting.
