Attached for your review is the Woodland Trails grant
information Phil Hals provided the Park and Recreation
Commission for its March meeting. At this meeting, the
Commission indicated that its preference for work in the
Woodland Trails Park includes: entrance road, parking lot,
roadway lighting of the hiking path, and to construct about
half of the crushed rock trail. The Commission indicated its
preference to omit the picnic shelter and about one-half of the
crushed rock trail.
.
As the Council and Commission is aware, the City submitted a
grant application for $137,000. The State is funding $50,000
of the project and, therefore, the project can be reduced to a
total of $100,000. Most of the City match will be equipment
and manpower, but some cash contribution may be required in
order to meet our 50% obligation.
The goal for this project is to work with the golf course in
developing the entrance road into the park and to have some
activity take place in later 1993. The majority of the work in
this park is planned for 1994. The City will have to work with
the golf course in determining how much of the entrance area
(Nord property) they wish to purchase or obtain .from the City
for an expansion of their driving range. As the Council and
Commission is aware, part of the existing driving range is
already on City park property. It is possible, but nothing has
been discussed at this time, that the City and the golf course
could share the entrance into both facilities.
