SUBJECT: CITY PLANNER CANDIDATES
The City Council held interviews with the two finalists for the
City Planner position on Monday, 5/10/93. Following the
interviews of the two candidates, the City Council discussed
which candidate should be offered the position. On 5/10 it was
decided to think about the candidates for a week and to make a
decision on which applicant to offer the position at this
5/17/93 meeting.

Both applicants are qualified for the position and both have
experiences in their professional background which will be
beneficial to Elk River. The Council should note that both
applicants are currently being paid near or above the top of
the pay range for this position. In this regard, it seems
apparent that the City will have to pay at or near the top of
its pay range for either applicant to accept the position. The
City has a precedent for doing this when the candidate is very
qualified and I believe that payment at the top of the pay
range is appropriate in this case.
