SUBJECT: FIRE DEPARTMENT RESCUE VAN
We received and opened bids on May 19 for an International
truck and all aluminum 15.6 foot modular body. We received a
total of five sealed bids on this unit (see attached copy of
bid proposals). Our Truck Committee has reviewed the bids and
taken a tour of the low bidder's facility (Cayel Craft in Rock
Rapids, Iowa) and feel they will meet our design and
performance requirements. They did, however, point out a few
additional cost changes we should consider. The Committee felt
these changes should be made:
1. Vertical exhaust system running up and between cab and box
less noise, fumes and odor (diesel) away from emergency
scene
2. Split entrance doors in back - better access, durability
over the years, clearance around vehicle
3. Chrome bumper in front - less maintenance, looks of unit,
pride and moral from department members.
I would like the Council's authorization to enter into a
contract with Cayel Craft to build this unit for our department.
