ITEM 4.8.
TO:
MAYOR & CITY COUNCIL
FROM:
PHIL HALS, STREET/PARK SUPT.
DATE: NOVEMBER 9, 1993
SUBJECT: STREET SIGN CHANGE - 188TH AVENUE
AND ALBANY STREET
Area residents have expressed a concern for this intersection
since the Westwood area improvements were completed. As you
can see from the attached map, 188th Avenue west of Albany
Street has been closed to vehicle traffic to create a
pedestrian walkway. The problem occurs when area children
rollerblade or skateboard downhill on the walk trail towards
Albany Street. There is limited visibility from north or
southbound Albany Street to allow motorists time to react.
After a discussion with the Police Chief and City Engineer, it
is our collective suggestion that Albany Street be changed from
a "yield" intersection to a "stop" in both directions and that
188th Avenue also be made a "stop" creating and all way stop
intersection.
