Introduction
KKE Architects will present the schematic pricing estimate for the library project.
Discussion
KKE has established cost estimates for a LEED certified library building and a Platinum LEED certified
building. KKE will present information regarding pricing and benefits of each.
Financial Impact
It appears that the costs associated with obtaining LEED Platinum certification are significandy higher
than obtaining LEED certification. The cost savings of a high performing building are available with a
LEED certification building. The extra measures required to reach Platinum status are mainly
environmental demonstration items that do not have significant long-term cost savings.

Action Requested
The Council is requested to provide direction regarding final budget for the library project, based on the
level of LEED certification. Staff recommends pursuing LEED certification, but believes that LEED
Platinum certification does not have long-term cost savings that justify its additional costs.
