HIRING POLICE OFFICERS
This is to inform the City Council that Officer Greg Jones has been
offered a job as a trooper with the Minnesota State Patrol.
Officer Jones, unfortunately, is expected to accept this position.
If he does in fact accept the position, he will be leaving us in
late February.
During the past week the police department also had two (2) medical
situations that have occurred. Officer Ron Nierenhausen had a
freak accident while participating in a department sponsored
defensive tactics training course; his Achilles tendon tore while
he was attempting to demonstrate a maneuver. This injury required
Ron to have surgery on Friday, January 14th, 1994. Ron will be
disabled for three (3) to six (6) months.

We also found out that one of our other officers has an illness
that may require significant medical attention over the next
several months, possibly longer.
I am, therefore, requesting authorization to hire two (2) officers
at the first step on the pay plan to help make up for the
anticipated shortage.
If you have any questions, I encourage you to call me prior to the
council meeting. I will also be in attendance at the meeting on
January 17, 1994.
