REQUEST FOR CITY CLERK TO
ATTEND OUT-STATE ANNUAL IIMC
CONFERENCE
INTRODUCTION
I am requesting Council authorization to attend the International Institute of Municipal
Clerks out-state conference. Although this is a budgeted expense in the 1994 budget,
staff must receive Council approval prior to attendance. The conference this year will
be held in Anchorage, Alaska.

BACKGROUND
During my tenure as City Clerk, I have attended a few out-state conferences. I have
found these conferences to be very informative and beneficial to my job as City Clerk.
Because the City Clerk's profession differs greatly from community to community, the
IIMC national conferences offer a variety of speakers and wide range of educational
sessions ranging from office management to personnel issues. A sample of what is being
offered at this conference is as follows:
. "Personal and Professional Skills" including business writing; effective team work;
and public speaking
. "Government and the Office" including public access to municipal records; Rules of
Procedure for boards and councils; and an update on computers in government
. Harassment and Abuse: Current Law and Requirements
. Customer Service
. Interviewing and Hiring
. Ethics
. Election Laws
In conclusion, I am requesting Council authorization to attend the 1994 IIMC
conference.
