SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR TWO PLANNING
COMMISSION MEMBERS TO
ATTEND OUT OF STATE NATIONAL
PLANNING CONFERENCE
In accordance with the 1994 goals established by the Planning Commission, the
Commission would like to request Council authorization to send two Planning
Commission members to the National Planning Conference in San Francisco during
April 16th through the 20th. This is the same conference that I will be attending and
offers Planning Commission members the identical agenda and conference sessions,
workshops, and mobile tours. Some ofthe topics that will be discussed include:
. Growth management strategies
e . Transportation planning
. Update on legal issues
. Wetland Protection
. Trends in housing industry
. Economic Development
. Urban design standards
In addition to these conference topics, several workshops will be conducted that are
designed specifically for Planning Commission members. These workshops give
Commission members an overview of diverse and complicated issues providing them
enough background information to make sound decisions.
The Planning Commission's 1994 budget as adopted by the City Council, included
expenditures for two Planning Commission members to attend the National Conference
upon approval by the City Council. In the event the City Council has any questions or
comments regarding this request, Dan Tveite, Planning Commission Chairman, will be
in attendance at Monday night's meeting.
