Hot Topic for the Month
The School District is reviewing their current flyer distribution policy and may decide to not
allow outside organizations to distribute flyers within the schools. We have written a letter
to the School Board asking for their support in continuing to allow us this privilege.
Without it, we would be challenged to get information to parents and their children. We will
share more information as it come up.
July Programs
We had many programs running this month. To highlight a few:
Stride, Glide, and Ride
· Over 140 people total participated.
· Feedback was very positive.
· Temperature was very high.
Tuesday Night Races
· Over 50 people participated in the first race.
· Over 40 people participated in the second race which took place when the
weather was over 90 degrees.
· This is a collaborative effort with the High School Cross Country Team. They
have volunteers working the events, providing equipment and treats.
Parade

The float theme this year was Pirates of the Caribbean.
Over 20 children from our Lion's Den Summer Day Camp program as well as
staff participated on the float. We even had a parent of a staff person dressed
up as Captain Jack.

· Our float made it in the Elk River Star News.
Each of these programs was coordinated by Ross Demant. He has done a great job this
summer implementing new ideas!
Special Marketing Efforts
The program guide was delivered the first week in August. This guide was our first guide
done in full color. Weare pleased with the results and I want to recognize RaeAnn for her
hard work in implementing this change.
We have done additional marketing for the following programs:
· Stride, Glide, and Ride
· Tuesday Night Races
· Fall Adult Softball
· Pinewood Golf Course Invitational Tournament
Facility Use
A total of 1,857 hours was reserved for the month of July. The breakdown of use is as
follows:
. Tennis Courts 40 hours
. Trails 11 hours
. Soccer Fields 70 hours
. Parks 115 hours
. Indoor 172 hours
. Shelters 512 hours
. Ball Fields 937 hours
Other
The mold abatement is complete and the rebuild of our offices will hopefully be complete by
the end of August. It will be great to all be in one facility again.

First Senior Center Cookbook went to press. Taking orders
7-27 Garden Party co-sponsored with Senior Dining. #160 signed up.
Preparing for National Night Out. The Police and Fire Dept put the Senior Center as the
first stop. As of7-25 #89 signed up
We have installed a ZoomText magnifier on one of the computers in the Computer Lab
area. This software gives people with low-vision access to all applications including
word processing, email and the Internet.
The Elk River Lions gave us 100 tickets for Guys & Dolls. Tickets were distributed to
participants.
Annette nominated Bill & Mary Heck (2 of the center's volunteers) for 2007 Outstanding
Senior Award sponsored by the MN Council On Aging. Bill won at the county level and
now will advance to the state level. Winners are announced at the State Fair.
