NFORMATION #2 05-23-1994 A.( --'\) ( )f . City of ~ Ell{ MEMORANDUM TO: MAYOR & CITY COUNCIL FROM: PHIL HALS, STREET/PARK SUPT. DATE: MAY 16, 1994 SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF A PARK TRACTOR In October of 1993, the Park and Recreation Commission approved the expenditure of $15,000 from the Park Equipment fund for the purchase of a 35 horsepower, 4 wheel drive tractor to be used for park construction, maintenance, and mowing. In December, the City Council authorized the solicitation of quotes from local suppliers. I sent out five requests for quotes and received the following: Scharber's Model 5200 outright $21,661.00V w/trade in $15,868.50 (430 John Deere) . Model 1070 outright w/trade in $16,663.17 $11,840.67 Long Lake Ford Model 2120 outright w/trade in $16,498.00 $13,798.00 Carlson Tractor & Equipment Model 2120 outright w/trade in $17,847.27 $14,865.27 Greenberg's No Reply Olson Fuel No Reply The John Deere 1070 and the Ford 2120 are very similar in size, weight, horsepower, and options, but I would recommend the purchase of the John Deere 5200 for the extra $4,027.83 as it is 40 horsepower instead of 35 and weighs about 1400 pounds more. It is my opinion that the extra size and horsepower will prove to be well worth the additional cost in future usage. . P.o. Box 490 · 13065 Orono Parkway · Elk River, MN 55330 · (612) 441-7420 .
