SUBJECT: PROPOSED NEW LOCATION FOR
SHERBURNE COUNTY GROWER'S
ASSOCIATION AT ELK RIVER MALL
ISSUE
Consider a request to amend the location for the Sherburne County Grower's
Association to conduct their weekly farmers market at Elk River Mall.
OVERVIEW

The City Council approved a permit for the Sherburne County Grower's
Association to operate a farmers market on a weekly basis at the Elk River
Mall. Apparently, the location selected and requested by the Association was
inadvertently shown north of the landscaped island, in front of the County
Market. This location has caused concern with the owners and respective
merchants of the Elk River Mall. Therefore, a new location has been
identified on the south side of the landscaped island towards the center of the
parking area (see attached Location Map).
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended the City Council approve the new location for the
Sherburne County Grower's Association to operate a farmers market at Elk
River Mall. All of the conditions that were approved as part of this permit
will still be applicable.

Dear Steve:
This letter serves to document our conversation concerning the parking area designated by
the Elk River City Council for use by the Sherburne County Growers Association at the Elk River
Mall.
The request, submitted by The Growers Association, inadvertently showed an area north
of the landscaped island which interferes with the County Market customers. I am requesting, on
behalf of the Elk River merchants and the owners of the Elk River Mall, that the parking area be
relocated to the second double row of parking spaces south of the landscaped island, utilizing the
westerly most 12 spaces of this row, closest to Freeport Avenue, but not interfering with the drive
lane.
Your consideration of this request will be appreciated by the Growers Association and the
Mall owners.
