SUBJECT: EQUIPMENT PURCHASES
On June 16, 1994, I attended the Hennepin County Coop Equipment Auction
in Hopkins. With the City Council's prior approval, I purchased the following
four items.
1. A Kelly-Creswell walk behind paint striper for $325.00. A new unit is
$6,500 and a used unit sells for $1,000-$1,500.
2.
A used 10' dump box w/hoist for $850. A new box and hoist is $3,600.
A used box and hoist is about $1,500 (when available). The box on
Unit 213, a 1975 Ford truck purchased used from Bloomington, has
rusted away to the point that it is nearly unusable, so this box became
available at an opportune time.

3. A used 1984 MT trackless sidewalk snow plow for $3,800. A new
sidewalk plow sells for $50,0000 and in late winter we had a similar
trackless demonstrated from an equipment dealer that was priced at
$12,500. This unit will serve as our primary sidewalk plow and leave
us the Gehl skid steer loader as a back up machine. With the
additional sidewalks on School Street, Jackson, and Freeport, plus the
additional paved trails that are planned for this year, the trackless will
offer a faster plowing speed.
As we develop more sidewalk mileage, it is my intention to trade up to
a new sidewalk plow in four or five years and, even at that time, we
should receive more dollars for trade than our purchase price.
4. A used Roscoe double drum steel asphalt roller for $1,100. The 1994
budget identified a steel roller for $7,500. While the roller I purchased
is not the most current model, it is in good condition, is the right size
for our paving operation, and should serve our needs for ten years or
more.

I am pleased with the equipment purchased and with the money that we
were able to save. I appreciate the City Council's confidence and support that
allows me to purchase equipment at this type of auction.
