Introduction
An Engineering Technician I position was created and included in the 2006 budget. We have
been looking for candidates to fill this position for over six months.
Discussion
Staff is proposing Chris Rice as a candidate for the Engineering Technician I position. The
minimal qualifications for this position are successful completion of a civil technician program
with no work experience needed. Mr. Rice who is from Belfast, Northern Ireland and has
recently immigrated to the United States has received the Higher National Certificate of Civil
Engineering Studies from the Belfast Institute of Further and Higher Education. He also has six
years of experience with a civil engineering company located in Northern Ireland.
Financial Impact
Mr. Rice would start at Pay Grade 4, Step D ($19.29 per hour). He would receive a cost of living
increase January 1,2008 and consideration for a step increase in that same time frame depending
upon a successful performance review.
