Introduction
It is recommended that the Council review the appointment process for interviewing and appointing
advisory board and commission members.
Discussion
In order to make the interview process more comfortable for applicants, other options should be
discussed for filling these positions.
Currently, the Council interviews applicants at a meeting on cable TV and then votes by secret ballot as
to which candidate they prefer at this same meeting.
One option for consideration
The Council could interview applicants at Council worksession meetings. This will help applicants feel
more comfortable in a less formal environment with not having to be in the Council Chambers and
interviewing on cable TV.
The appointments could be made at the next City Council meeting rather than at the same meeting by
secret ballot. This will give the Council more time to think about which applicant they would like to
appoint.
Staff could include a secret ballot form in your worksession packet listing the applicants. This form would
need to be turned in by the next City Council meeting.
Other options
Other options would be any other ideas the Council may want to consider.
