Dear Congress
I am writing in support of a critical transportation project located in the northwest metro region of
the Twin Cities - the Interstate 94IBrockton Lane interchange in the Cityof Dayton. The
interchange project is of vital significance to our communities and to our region. The 1-94
corridor continues to experience tremendous growth - in fact some of the fastest growth in the
nation - but the resulting congestion has expanded well beyond,.standard peak hours of travel and
is threatening our future competitiveness and quaI1ty of life.
Currently there is no access on or off the freeway between Weaver Lake Road in Maple Grove
and Highway 101 in Rogers. During congested travel times this stretch of roadway totaling more
than five miles creates a "vehicle stacking" situation that basically immobilizes this portion of the
interstate. However, Mn/DOT has been forced to make severe budget cuts and delay important
project studies and system improvements affecting our area. This is exacerbated by the lack of
responsiveness on the part of the Metropolitan COU11cil who promised us an access in our area
over thirty years ago only to pass us over again and again. The Brockton interchange is well
overdue for advancelI)efit. That's why the Dayton City Council, Hassan Township, the Hennepin
County cities ofMa]!f1e Grove, Rogers, and Corcoran have all come together as partners to
advance their goal of an expanded 1-94 corridor, complete with a full interchange at Brockton
Lane.
Federal funding is desperately needed to help move this project forward. These dollars would be
used to move through the scoping study, environmental documentation process, preliminary
design and right-of-way acquisition. Your consideration is greatly appreciated and your support
would make a tremendous difference to improving the safety and mobility along this heavily
congested segment of the 1-94 transportation corridor.
We thank you for your interesting this critical project and look forward to working with you to
help build a stronger future for our area.
Sincerely,
