Item Description
Authorization to Hire Laborers
Introduction
The 2007 budget includes new fulltime Laborer positions for the Street Department, Building
Maintenance Division, and Wastewater Treatment Facility. We have completed the recruitment,
application, and interviewing process and request Council authorization to hire the following applicants.
Discussion
We received approximately 140 applications for these positions. Assistant Street Supervisor Mark
Thompson, Building Maintenance Supervisor Gary Lore, Wastewater Chief Operator Gary Leirmoe, and
I interviewed nine candidates. After meeting with four of those candidates a second time we are
recommending Matt Miske for the Street Department position, Jim LeBrun for the Building Maintenance
position, and Dale Eckert for the Wastewater position. Each comes with a varying degree of experience
and we feel each will be an excellent fit in the departments to which they have been assigned. They are all
anxious to begin work tomorrow morning, April 17 , 2007.
Financial Impact
Each employee will begin at step A of pay grade 2 which is $12.38 per hour. They will be eligible for any
January 1,2008 cost of living increase approved by Council. They will also be eligible for a step increase
July 1, 2008 dependent on satisfactory performance.
Attachments
None.
Action Requested
The Council is requested to authorize the hiring of Matt Miske, Jim LeBrun, and Dale Eckert according
to the terms stated above.
