RE: WACO STREET BRIDGE
RIGHT-OF-WAY ACQUISITION
Dear Council Members:
At the recent MnDOT spring tour, one of the items that was discussed was the proposed
future construction of a bridge over the Elk River on the Waco Street alignment. There was
some discussion with MnDOT about the possibility of designing a "floodable" bridge which
would minimize the total length of the project and hopefully reduce the cost somewhat. One
thing that the Municipal State Aid system allows the City to do would be to pursue right-of-
way for this future bridge and street alignment at this point in time. There have been
previous discussions with the landowner to the north of the Elk River regarding acquisition
of property in this area. If the City so desires, we could pursue the acquisition of that
property with a portion of it being dedicated as future Waco Street right-of-way. Since
Waco Street is currently on the Municipal State Aid system, we could therefore request
Municipal State Aid Fund reimbursement for the right-of-way acquisition.
If the Council would desire us to pursue this, please let us know and we will bring forth at
an upcoming meeting the appropriate resolutions and documentation to be sent to MnDOT
for reimbursement of the cost. If you have any questions on this item, I will be in attendance
at your July 25, 1994, City Council meeting.
Sincerely,
MSA, CONSULTING ENGINEERS
