APPLICATION TO AMEND VARIOUS
SECTIONS OF THE ZONING
ORDINANCE
ISSUE
Request for the City Council to consider initiating an application to amend
various sections of the Zoning Ordinance.
OVERVIEW
.
Over the past year staff has been accumulating a checklist of various sections
of the ordinance which either need clarification or, due to recent trends in the
market and development standards, need to be considered for possible
amendments. Sections of the zoning ordinance which pertain to general
performance standards, such as landscaping and parking, arise with virtually
every development request. Therefore, it is recommended that these two
sections be reviewed immediately and modified accordingly. It is anticipated
that the proposed code amendments could be brought before the Planning
Commission in August and forwarded to the City Council at the September
19th meeting.
In addition to these two sections, there are other parts of the Zoning
Ordinance which need to be clarified and slightly adjusted. Staff would like
to begin bringing these sections of the ordinance before the Planning
Commission and City Council for their consideration to make the appropriate
changes to the ordinance. It will take some time before all the corrections
and adjustments to the ordinance can be made, therefore, the sooner this can
begin the better off we will be with our efforts to update the Zoning
Ordinance.
RECOMMENDATION
.
It is recommended the City Council direct staff to begin bringing forward
various sections of the Zoning Ordinance for Planning Commission and City
Council consideration.
