Background/Discussion The American Legion Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign War requested the Council proclaim May 11, 2007, as Poppy Day. The red poppy has been designated as a symbol of sacrifice of lives in all wars. The American Legion Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign War have pledged to remind America annually of this debt through the distribution of the memorial flower. Financial Impact . None Attachments . NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, on behalf of the City Council, that I, Stephanie Klinzing, Mayor of the City of Elk River, Minnesota, do hereby proclaim Friday, the 11 ,h day of May, 2007, as POPPY DAY and ask that all citizens pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom by wearing the Memorial Poppy on this day.
